The MISSION of COMOTA is to build, maintain, and promote sustainable natural surface trail use near and around the Columbia, Missouri area. Est. 2018

COMOTA is happy to announce the completion of the COMOTA is happy to announce the completion of the Rock Bridge Memorial State Park Spring Brook trail re-route. COMOTA has been working multiple years on the approval process and re-route with Rock Bridge Memorial State Park. Official trail work was kicked off in December 2025 and continued through May 2026. Volunteers spent multiple weekends and a total of 298 hours digging, raking, lopping, and hauling rocks to create an awesome new section of single-track trail.

This replaces the old section of .25-mile-long section which was a fall-line trail. Over the years this older route had accumulated years of erosion and trail widening. For reference a fall-line trail is typically the shortest and steepest way down a hill, making it prone to erosion and difficult to drain water.

The new section of trail is approximately .40 mile long and follows the natural contours of the land. This new design makes it easier to drain water and maintain the trail in years to come, ensuring sustainability and a better experience for all trail users.

Check out the before and after pictures! Better yet get out there and hike, run or bike the Spring Brook re-route.

Thank you to all the volunteers who contributed to this trail stewardship project, as well as the Rock Bridge Memorial State Park staff for its support.
